Certified Parent Peer Support Specialists

Kansas is one of a few states where Parent Peer Support is both a requirement for mental health providers and a billable service. Parent Peer Support is a specialized service that provides support to parents with children who are struggling with Serious Emotional Disturbance, Substance Use, or co-occurring conditions. This service is provided to support the stabilization of the child and enhance the family’s quality of life.

The training is provided free. Training occurs in two parts

  • Level One certification to become a Kansas Certified Parent Peer Specialist in Training (KCPPST) is online and self-paced. After Level One, Individual Education Plan training will be completed through Families Together. Families Together will email a link for the training to those who have completed Level One.
  • Level Two for certification as a Kansas Certified Parent Peer Specialist is a two-day in-person training offered up to 4 times per year in varying locations around the state. To be fully certified, both levels must be completed.

Information on each leveled training and instructions regarding application for certification are available under the Training Documents section below. The “Frequently Asked Questions” will be a helpful resource as well.
