KanCare Ombudsman Volunteer Training Program

The KanCare Ombudsman's office in Topeka is establishing a KanCare Ombudsman Volunteer Program for individuals interested in providing a community service by assisting KanCare members who have questions or concerns regarding their health care coverage.

The Ombudsman is looking for individuals who are willing to volunteer their time to help KanCare members and others apply for, understand and learn about their KanCare benefits and the value-added services provided by the three KanCare managed care organizations. They also will provide KanCare consumers with guidance and information on the appeals, grievances and State Fair Hearing processes.

Volunteers are asked to serve 3-15 hours per week. The program will provide training at no cost, mentoring and support for volunteers along with office space and equipment. College students are encouraged to apply.

The Wichita State University Center for Community Support and Research (CCSR) will host the KanCare Ombudsman Volunteer site in Wichita. KanCare Ombudsman volunteer offices are also scheduled to open in Kansas City and Johnson County. Training will be provided in all three locations beginning Aug. 1.
